Scientist / Senior Associate Scientist, Upstream Process Development of Biologics
Elevian is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, detail-oriented Scientist or Senior Associate Scientist with upstream process development experience. The successful candidate will play an important role in conducting development and optimization of bench-scale cellular bioproduction process to support in-house research scale production of recombinant protein and antibody therapeutics and to ensure seamless technology transfer to a contract development and manufacturing organizations for GLP/GMP manufacturing. The successful candidate will be a key member of a fast-paced R&D team, collaborating collegially and cross-functionally to help Elevian develop its first and next generation biotherapeutics for aging-related diseases, initially focusing on stroke-recovery.
Primary Responsibilities:
Establish in-house upstream bioprocessing capabilities for mammalian cell culture using CHO cell lines in bench scale bioreactors from cell-thaw through harvest.
Design and execute upstream process development experiments to characterize, optimize upstream processes in shake flasks and bench scale bioreactors, ultimately to support development of robust and scalable bioreactor processes.
Perform analytical and biochemical methods to monitor cell growth, metabolic profiles, and productivity of cultures.
Serve as a technical liason between Elevian and external partners for seamless technology transfer to a manufacturing setting by collaborating with offsite colleagues.
Document and effectively communicate results through oral presentation and written reports in a timely manner.
Develop SOPs and batch records for both internal and outsourced manufacturing activities.
Provide guidance and technical support to colleagues and peers.
Contribute to multiple projects within the Elevian product development pipeline
Education, Behavioral Competencies, Skills, and Qualifications
PhD/MS in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology or related discipline required
Must have 2 - 5 years of upstream process development experience using small and medium scale bioreactors in standard or single use modalities (e.g. disposable wave or other S.U.Bs)
Experience with mammalian expression platforms (HEK293Expi and/or CHO in suspension culture) will be required.
Experience with protein quantification using ELISA and BLI (Octet) needed.
Knowledge of cell banking, use of design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analyses for bioprocess study design and evaluation will be valued.
Working knowledge of GxPs will be valued.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with a diverse group of colleagues will be required.
